From sea to shining sea as the song says, one young man will be riding his motorcycle from the bottom of South America to the top of North America, all for charity. Ollie Plunket, an 18-year old from the U.K. will be giving all of the proceeds to a charity called Fisher House U.K. a sister organization of one in America.
Plunket’s ride will be 24,000 miles long. He will take 7 months to complete it, stopping at the Fisher house U.S. charity locations along the way to volunteer his time. Plunket is asking for sponsors for his trip, and all money given will go to Fisher House. He hopes to raise at least 100,000 euros, which is equal to around $130,000.
The journey will start in Argentina. The very tip of Argentina, which is the southernmost spot, is where he will begin, in Ushuaia. He will then travel across the Andes Mountains in Patagonia. Plunket will wind his way around the west coast and travel north until he reaches the farthest point in Alaska, near Prudhoe Bay. As he is traveling alone, Plunket made sure to learn motorcycle mechanics. He also now knows first aid, and even learned Spanish for the trip. He wants to be as prepared as he can be, since there will be no one else with him to help out if a problem should arise.
What Ollie Plunket is doing is very admirable, and we should all do what we can to support him. For further information on Ollie and this inspiring story, visit Adventurebiker.com.
